Has your washing machine stopped working? Do you have a problem and don't know what to do? Here are our tips on how to repair a washing machine? First of all, check whether your appliance is under warranty (minimum 2 years for a new appliance), and then look at the repair options.
How to repair your washing machine
1 - Analyse the fault in your washing machine
First, check that your problem cannot be solved simply by consulting your machine's operating instructions and checking all connections. Switch the machine off and on again to check the fault. In many cases, repairing a washing machine does not require replacing any parts.
What are the most common breakdowns?
Your washing machine won't start
Check the door first, it may not be closed properly. If the problem persists, take a look at the power outlet, it may simply be unplugged. To see if the connection is working properly, plug in another appliance. The failure may be due to a bad contact at the switch. In this case, press the start button and if the machine starts intermittently, call a professional repairman who will come and change the switch.
Your washing machine vibrates heavily during washing
Check that you have not loaded too much laundry into the machine. Check that the laundry is evenly distributed in the drum. The problem may also be due to an imbalance in the washing machine.
Your washing machine fills with water too slowly
Start by checking whether the taps are not closed. If the taps are in the "on" position, the problem may be in the connecting pipe. Dismantle it and remove any dirt inside that could block the water flow.
Your washing machine makes too much noise
Check each part of the drum to see if anything is stuck. If the problem is not with the drum, unscrew the plug that gives access to the drain pump. Once opened, check to see if there is anything stuck inside.
Your washing machine is leaking
A leak can be caused by a clogged part, a broken part, a defective seal that no longer fulfills its role. In this case, turn off the power and check that there is no more electrical current to avoid any risk of electrocution. Never leave the electric wire in water.
2 - Check whether the fault can be repaired
Before getting started, a little research is in order. On the manufacturer's website, there are usually two essential documents: an exploded view of the machine, which allows you to distinguish the different parts that make it up; and a video showing how to access the part and detach it without making a mistake. Simply type in the machine's error code to obtain information.
First, unplug the machine and check for any power outage, then, armed with a screwdriver, loosen the screws that hold the top cover of the washing machine. With a quick movement, you can slide the cover off and access the interior of the machine. After disassembling the machine, we plunge our hands inside to find the defective part.
3 - Find the compatible spare part
The repair of the machine will depend mainly on the success of this step. There are, in fact, many spare parts for each model of each brand. Some groups offer compatible parts in several of their brands.
Some manufacturers offer non-branded spare parts that are compatible with several models... So you will need to find the right part for your washing machine.
