- Before cleaning the washing drum and removing any unpleasant odours, first clean the seal by spraying it with white vinegar and wiping it with a damp microfibre cloth. The rubber gasket at the front of the washer, especially in a high efficiency (HE) washer, collects water, hair, scum and mildew.
- Set the washer to the highest level and hottest water temperature.
- Add two cups of white cleaning vinegar to the detergent dispenser.
- Run a full cycle.
- Run another cycle at the highest level and hottest water temperature, this time adding half a cup of baking soda to the drum.
- Once the cycle is complete, remember to wipe the inside of the washer drum with a damp microfibre cloth.
- While you're at it, also wipe the front of the machine.
